Jillian Johnston

Legal Background


With a background of a decade in banking and insurance Jillian commenced her law studies.


After qualifying and being admitted to practice Jillian worked for a civil litigation and criminal practice in South Australia prior to becoming in-house Counsel for the Housing Guarantee Fund Ltd (now merged with VMIA).


She then became a Senior Associate at Wainwright Ryan focusing on construction law and then from 2000 to 2004 she was principal of her own law firm, Johnston-Phelps Solicitors.


Later in 2004 Jillian joined the firm Lovegrove Solicitors as consultant and eventually became a partner.


In September 2006 the firm merged with a commercial practice to form Lovegrove Lord and Johnston.


In 2007 Jillian commenced her own firm Johnston Construction Lawyers.


Jillian is also a former member of the Building Appeals Board having been appointed from 2006 to 2012.


The Building Appeals Board hears and determines various types of appeals, disputes and applications relating to the Building Act and Regulations. The matters heard are broad and include appeals from Council, Building Surveyors and the Building Practitioners Board.
